Step Up for Israel: Addressing Anti-Semitism on American College Campuses
Temple Emanu-El Presents a Program of Empowerment
Sunday, February 5, 2012, 10:30am-Noon
Like an incoming tide, waves of anti-Israel/anti-Semitism activities are sweeping across college and university campuses in the United States and beyond. Jewish students and their organizations have been targeted; an international boycott of Israel is being promoted; and, the Israeli Ambassador to the US has been shouted down at some of America’s most celebrated campuses.
Anti-Israel activities also are occurring on campuses in Georgia. Jewish and/or pro-Israeli students, either in college today, or who soon will matriculate to higher education (as well as their parents), need to be informed on these activities and empowered on how to respond to them.
On Sunday, February 5th, 10:30-Noon, Temple Emanu-El presents a compelling program in conjunction with “Step Up for Israel” to bring you up to date on this growing problem and offer you resources for positive response.
Starting with a brief documentary entitled “Crossing the Line: The Intifada Comes to Campus”, the program will include a panel to put this situation into context and answer your questions:
- Professor Timothy Furnish—a Perimeter College professor and expert on the Arab and Islamic cultures.
- Rachel Globus—the Hillel director at Emory where there is a small but active Palestinian student group.
- Deputy Israeli Consul Sharon Kabalo—bringing us the view from Israel, especially regarding the global efforts (including on campuses) to boycott Israel and its products.
- At noon, there will be refreshments and an opportunity for more informal interaction with our panel of experts. This program is free to all attendees.
